Project Overview

The Container Store needed an eCommerce platform that could be quickly integrated with their core systems and allow them to focus on their strategic eCommerce plans.

The project centered around replacing The Container Store's existing eCommerce solution.

The project team was challenged to migrate existing functionality, improve integration between the store and online systems, and deliver a highly scalable solution.

Solution

A joint team of developers from Broadleaf Commerce and The Container Store worked together on the project. The solution focused on migrating from The Container Store's existing eCommerce platform to Broadleaf Commerce.

The solution was able to take advantage of the customizability of Broadleaf Commerce. Out-of-box customer handling was augmented to utilize The Container Store's centralized customer management system. Broadleaf Commerce's order workflow and fulfillment processes were modified to interact with existing corporate systems for better online and store interaction.

Custom features like a customized shelving solution were developed utilizing the same technologies as Broadleaf Commerce but not requiring any deep integration with the framework.

Results

"Soon after the initial launch, {the platform} had to more than prove itself by supporing the traffic generated from a segment of The Oprah Show. Although that generated a spike of six times our average load, the customer shopping experience was not adversely affected. Site performance is something we no longer concern ourselves with."
